New cassette releases
Dick Threats 'Excellents'
Excellents marks a shift in the sound of Mark Groves and Sharryn Koppens' Dick Threats project. While the absurd track titles and tape hiss of 2011's Meat Cashremain, a darker quality is evident in these six pieces. This time Sharryn's trumpet is for the most part pitch-shifted and droning, while the hectic plundered rhythms ofMeat Cash have given way to intermittent rolling shapes drenched in cavernous reverb. Severe jump cuts between tracks are also eschewed in favour of vaporous fades between passages. This is undeniably a new atmosphere for a resurgent mission.
Edition of 50
Hans Harms 'Vulnerable Sources Project'
Vulnerable Sources Project is the first recorded collaboration between Mark Groves, Leith Thomas, and Dave Coen. The brutalist rhythms and unforgiving electronics of related projects Dead Boomers and Ivens are present here, offering a skeleton in which vocal lines unfurl. These four pieces are principally concerned with a cynical, disillusioned observation of contemporary Australia: the systemic misuse of authority, persistently disappointing discourse, wilful ignorance and an ever-present internalized inferiority complex.

Dry Process opens at Rearview Gallery
DRY PROCESS
A collaboration between Dead Boomers and Wife
The idea of irrefutable truth is the bedrock of public discourse. It is used to form opinions and decide alignment within argument. But these fervently held beliefs -- often taken as unimpeachable gospel -- are built on subjective presentations of fact.
Taking the public furore surrounding the Lindy Chamberlin case as source material, Dry Process acknowledges the subjectivity at the heart of public truth and invites participation in the creation of yet another version through the window of the photocopier plate.
Workshops will be conducted over the course of the exhibition, creating new interpretations and perspectives. All are welcome to participate.
Dry Process is a collaboration between music groups Dead Boomers (Mark Groves and Leith Thomas) and Wife (Samaan Fieck and Eric Demitriou). The groups have created a series of sound works to accompany the installation. These will be released on cassette and digitally in the coming weeks.

UPDATED Dead Boomers US tour and album launch
To launch their new album 'The Pig In The Python' (and Sabbatical's first vinyl release), Dead Boomers are touring the United States, starting in late January.
More dates and further details TBC. Check back here for the most up to date information on the tour and 12" release.
The Pig In The Python is the debut album from Dead Boomers, following short run cassette and compact disc recordable releases on Sabbatical. The prospect of an aging population dominates these ominous narratives, exploring anxious visions of a seemingly inevitable future. Divided into two distinct segments, the lurid forecasts of the album A side are comprised of rhythm and vocal led blasts that have defined recent live performances - while the B side features a series of heavy electronic themes. Familiar elements within the duo's arsenal remain in these pieces, augmented by gestures new to the project. The Pig In The Python was recorded to 1/4" tape with Neil Thomason at Head Gap, and mastered by Kris Lapke.
The 12" will be available at all the dates on the US tour and by mailorder in late February.
