Dead Boomers 'Privilege&Obscenity' Launch

Dead Boomers deal in heavy electronics and black humour. 'Privilege&Obscenity' is the duo's new cassette EP on their own label Sabbatical, following 2013 releases on Iron Lung (US) and Cipher Productions (TAS). This new release will be launched at The Grace Darling Hotel on Thursday 16 October. Joining Dead Boomers are Complete (Brent Stegeman of Heirs and Whitehorse), Vacuum (Jenny Branagan of Nun and Andrea Blake of Asps) and Lucid Castration (Liam Osborne of Freejack and the Future Archaic label). Doors at 8pm, $10 entry.

The Informatics

It takes place from 6.30pm at Lucy Guerin Studios, 28 Batman Street, West Melbourne.

Other: Metaphysical World Pieces #1 by Metaphysical Circuits

Metaphysical World Pieces #1 is a mostly Trans-Atlantic compilation put together by the folks at Metaphysical Circuits. 20 tracks of electronic kosmische, weirdo pop, ambient drone, leftfield techno and other oddities. Australia's representation is the track 'Василий Архипов' from Decent Therapy (a loose electronic project of Sabbatical co-founder Markus Cook). The compilation is digital download only and in the modern 'pay what you feel' price range. Below is a small selection of tracks to hopefully entice you into the late night exploration this effort deserves.

Other: Jonathon Nokes 'Convulsions'

Dapper Melbourne sound artist Jonathon Nokes in his own words sends too much time in MRI machines. Below is a fine piece of modular manipulation inspired by this medical diagnostic procedure. Make sure to strap on some headphones on to fully experience it. Please also remove any jewellry and credit cards and inform your technician of any metal implants.

Other: Refund 'Hill' & 'Gem'

Refund is Melbourne electronic musician/artist Matt Refund. Seems Matt has been recording a bit of late and has served up some goodness via Soundcloud. Breakcore? Noise? IDM? Modular Synth Worship? We'll leave that up to you.

Other: Moffarfarrah on Whiteness and Pinkness

One of Sabbatical's early releases (Little More - SBBTCL002) was of Melbourne's Christopher L G Hill's vocal based project 'Moffarfarrah' (and its myriad of various spellings). This project has a new C45 release on the Whiteness and Pinkness label entitled Primo. With a tip to the hat to the 90's Compact Disc fad of 'secret tracks', this cassette release revives this gimmick in the analogue format with these two tracks. Sorry if we just ruined it for you.

Trade stock: South Saturn Delta 'Experience The Concreteness' (Cold Spring Records)

For this week's trade box selection we've got the psych-noise live album from South Saturn Delta from Cold Spring Records.

Something of a Japanese supergroup, South Saturn Delta bring together the iconic Maso Yamazaki (Masonna) with with Hiroshi Hasegawa (C.C.C.C. and Astro)—with an appearance from drummer Nobuko Emi on 'Rocket Incantation'.

These are all live recordings, collected between 2003 and 2005, which lends an aggressively primitive feel to proceedings. It's a great head cleaner.

Trade stock: Nikita Golyshev 'Solaris' (Monochrome Vision)

We've accumulated a healthy stockpile of trades over the years. Long a feature of our merch table at live shows, we thought it time they were made available to our digital community. Each week we'll feature a different item from the trades box.

First up is a release from Moscow-based label, Monochrome Vision. Dmitry contacted us a while back and we did a massive trade. Our only request: only Russian releases. It was a choice that's yielded more than a few fantastic releases. We'll eventually get through all of them, but for now, we have Nikita Golyshev's slowly evolving textural missive, Solaris.
